How to Jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 Using BlackRa1n RC3

GeoHot has released RC3 of BlackRa1n jailbreak for iPhone. So, In this guide you will learn how to jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch on OS 3.1.2 using BlackRa1n for Windows.

NOTE

BlackRa1n jailbreaks all iPhones and iPod Touch models
BlackRa1n jailbreak will work with the latest 3.1.2 firmware. So Update to Latest iPhone OS 3.1.2 first.
Now BlackRa1n RC3 features BlackSn0w that will let you unlock your iPhone even Baseband 05.11.07 is unlockable now.
BlackRa1n also Jailbreaks iPod Touch 3G but it’s a tethered jailbreak. Which means whenever you would restart your Touch or it turns OFF because of empty battery then you will need to rerun BlackRa1n.

In the end, usual warning applies: Use it on your Own.

Jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch using BlackRa1n RC3

Update your iTunes to latest version.
Install the latest firmware in your iPod or iPhone. You can download iPhone OS 3.1.2 from here:
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 2G
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 3G
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS

For those with a new iPhone 3GS (updated Bootrom), BlackRa1n only supports a tethered jailbreak. This means that once jailbroken you should not let your battery die. If it does die you will need to reconnect it to the computer and use BlackRa1n to boot it.

Steps are same for Windows and Mac users

Step 1
Go to:

http://www.blackra1n.com

and download BlackRa1n RC3 by clicking on the Windows/Mac icon at the bottom of the page and save it on your desktop.

IMPORTANT: Download BlackRa1n only from the website mentioned above.

Step 2
Now execute the BlackRa1n.exe from your desktop by double clicking on it.

Step 3
Now connect your iPhone or iPod to your PC and hit the make it Ra1n button.

Now your iPhone will go into Recovery Mode.

Regular Recovery Mode screen will be replaced with picture of GeoHot.

Step 4

After the BlackRa1n has done its stuff, your iPhone or iPod will Reboot.

Then a Popup will appear telling you that BlackRa1n is a free tool and if you like it you can donate at geohot@gmail.com

Step 5
Once your iPhone is back ON you will see a BlackRa1n named icon on your iPhone SpringBoard. Which means your iPhone or iPod has successfully been jailbroken.

Tap on the BlackRa1n icon on SpringBoard. (Make sure your iPhone/iPod have internet connection)

Step 6
Now choose your desired installer from the given choices and press the Install button at top-right. Choose Sn0w only if your want to Unlock.

BlackRa1n will download your selected package and then install it.

Step 7
Once all done your iPhone/iPod will respring and you will find your selected package icon on SpringBoard.

for iPhone 3GS and 3G
Unlock iPhone OS 3.1.2 Baseband 05.11.07

for iPhone 2G:
Unlock iPhone 2G OS 3.1.2

If BlackRa1n doesn’t work for you for any reason you can always try RedSn0w:

Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 with RedSn0w
Jailbreak iPod Touch 3.1.2 with RedSn0w

I tried to jailbreak my 2G with 3.1.2, but i get stuck at step 4. The message “done, wait for reboot” stays in front and the phone doesn’t react anymore..there’s no reboot at all i think..does anybody knows a solution?

Hi iphoneheat my ipod touch 3g already jailbreak with this method and have cydia too but when i want to connect and transfer the files with DiskAiD this program require me to jailbreak so why?

Same problem faced by Andre and Frost
I am having the same problems with my wifi. the geohot jailbreak works great but my wifi doesnt work so I cant finish the job by installing cydia etc.
I have reset the network settings over and over, restored and rejailbroke over and over and now I need a little advice. Help please!

I configured my wifi and downloaded Cydia,Rock and Snow.It downloaded and installed all three programs.Now my network does not appear.So I resetted the network settings.It reloads and not operator network comes.So what to do now.Please help..I have a 3gs new bootrom.

What I do is:
1) Plug in my iPod
2) Run BlackRa1n
3) My iPod goes into restore mode(without the guy’s pic, but with the normal iTunes logo with the USB)
4) The BlackRa1n says it’s finished, and to wait for reboot.
5) My iPod screen stays black and never reboots untill I manually do it and then the BlackRa1n app isn’t on my iPod.

Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong or what could I check for to make it work?

hi iphoneheat…i have a ipod touch 32gb 3G 3.1.2 model:MC..i used to have the blackra1n icon on my device but i uninstalled it and now i want it back on my device..i keep running the blackra1n button over n over again and i can’t get the blkra1n icon on my device nomore….WHAT CAN I DO???…need HELP..ASAP..PLZ..

    hi..but i dont have cydia nomore either…i didnt installed it when i had the blackrain icon on my device and i uninstalled the blackra1n icon..and now i want it on my device so i can install cydia on my device…i keep running blackra1n and it says enjoy ur jailbroken device put i can’t see the icon on my ipod…WHAT CAN I DO2 GET IT BACK ON MY DEVICE???

I Have a ipod touch 3.1.2 version.I already cracked it using blackra1n bt ma battery ws low and ipod got switchd off nw wen i try making it rain it shows geohots pic on ma ipod touch and it shows done,wait for reboot.bt d reboot neva happens.wat shud i do??plzz help…

I went through the transaction of jailbreaking my ipod and followed the exact instructions but it’s not appearing in my ipod.
I have a macintosh and an itouch version 3.1.3. I went to blackra1n.com, i clicked the apple, it downloaded, i clicked blackra1n on my desktop, a box popped up and i clicked make it ra1n, my ipod turns off then back on showing the apple symbol then the plug into itunes thing then that turns off and the screen goes black (i can’t see anything but a light is still being produced from it) itunes said an ipod was found in recovery mode and i must restore it before it can be used with itunes (but when i click restore the warning pops up and says if i continue everything will be erased), on the blackra1n it says ‘enjoy your jailbroken iphone your jailbreak is done once the device reboots’, my ipod is still black but if i wait long enough the apple symbol will appear and it will say ipod in sync and on the computer it says backingup ipod, and once that’s over i look through my apps and there is no blackra1n.
What did I do wrong?

Hi,

I have iPhone 2G (first gen), last week i upgraded to latest version, then it got locked and shows the screen “The SIM Card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported”.

I followed Steps 1-4 listed above and my iPhone got rebooted. But i’m not getting blackra1n icon my iPhone screen after the reboot.

Please help me how to unlock my iPhone.

it keeps saying that the application has failed to start because asl.dll was not found What is that! and when i hit make it rain it just says it stops working

Hi,
i have iphone 3gs 32gb and i jailbroke my phone some tim ago it work all right and i had to jailbreak it each time on reboot. Suddenly my battery went down and iphone was off and i ma trying to jailbreak the iphone but its stuck in the image and restards back with USB and itunes icon. i dont know what to do.. Plzzz help

Hi iphoneheat, I’m stuck at step 2. downloaded blackra1n but unable to run the application. It says “This application has failed to srat because ASL.dll was not found”. Pls help as my 2G iphone is locked.

        oh.. then you should be using RedSn0w 0.9.3. because Spirit requires an activated device not stuck at recovery

I did what you told me to do, I downloaded Blackra1n and it only gave me the option to download and unpack Rock and Cydia. And so, I did. Does this mean my iPod is jailbroken and I can get apps for free?
