This worked perfectly for me. I have an iPhone 2g which was previously jailbroken and unlocked to 2.2.1 OS. Started experiencing shutdown problems after updating some of my apps through iTunes. Realized those updates were meant for phones that were updated to 3.0 OS. Used the custom 3.0 OS and then proceeded to jailbreak. I did note that when I added a 3rd party app through Cydia that phone started to shutdown again. Deleted the Cydia app and phone is no longer shutting down. Be careful of adding third party apps if you update to 3.0 OS. Convinced that certain 3rd party apps do not play well with the 3.0 OS.

I have one problem though I connect to a wifi network but when I try to open an app that requires wifi (Cydia for example) I get an error unable to load, or Youtube which says not able to join at this time. I have full bars on wifi connection when I did this. Please can someone help…

hello there, i was trying to use your method, but it just won’t let me do the step one, a message comes up stating: the iphone “iphone” could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible. or something like that; so what do I do, I also wanted to let you know that the itunes I’m using is the 9.0 which is newer than the one u guys are recommending, so I don’t know if that should be a problem, at the moment I’m downloading the latest version to see whether it works. Please help!

so did this and computer stayed on step nine and never moved… everything went flawless until then and now my phone does absolutely nothing, not turning on or anything

    • steve999 13 July 2010 at 11:58 pm #

how long should it be on this step?

    • iPhoneHeat 14 July 2010 at 1:30 am #

hole down the home + power button for 10 sec then let got the home button but keep holding the power to get out of DFU.

go straight to 3.1.3 and use Spirit to jailbreak

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered.

Problem: I was using iPhone 2g as an iPod (no SIM) but it was formatted to a MAC computer. Two days ago I restored it so that I can download music to it from my new WINDOWS laptop. However, the only option I have now is to “Insert SIM” as iTunes cannot read the phone until I do this. I do not want to put my SIM back in because I only want to use the phone as an iPod. How do I go about jailbreaking from this starting point?

    Thank you.
