How to Downgrade iPhone 3G (2.2.1) Baseband 2.30 to 2.28 for Unlock | Step-by-Step Guide

In this iPhone Guide, you will learn how to downgrade Baseband 2.30 to 2.28 for your iPhone 3Gs having Bootloader 5.8. After downgrading the Baseband you will be able to Unlock iPhone 3G with YellowSn0w.  Gurus are working on a similar exploit for higher Bootloader versions.

Prerequisites:


Step 1
Launch Cydia from your iPhone Springboard.
then Go to Sections Tab at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2

Go to iClarified from the list of Sections. If you’re unable to find it then you need to add following source to Cydia:

http://cydia.iClarified.com

Step 3
From the list of packages, select DownBB.
then Press the Install button at the top right of the screen.

Step 4
Press the Confirm button to begin installation.
On completion of the Installation, Press the big Return to Cydia button.

Step 5
Press the Home button to return to SpringBoard and Launch the Terminal.

Step 6
Input su into the terminal window.
When asked input alpine as password

Step 7
Input DownBB into the terminal window to launch the Baseband downgrade script.

Step 8
Now you will be asked to confirm you would like to continue. If you’re sure that you’re on Bootloader 5.8 and Baseband 2.28 input Yes into the window.

Step 9
DownBB script will be executed to downgrade iPhone Baseband.
When all done, your iPhone will Reboot automatically.

Step 10
Please note you will now be on the 2.28 baseband.

As you have downgraded iPhone 3G baseband 2.30 to 2.28 now you can unlock your iPhone 3G.

    I downloaded the DownBB as instructed but after when it was done downloaded no icon appear or anything nothing happen i think i did something wrong let me know what i did wrong

    unfortunately, I have a baseband 2.30 but my bootloader is 6.02. so how can I downgrade my bootloader to 5.8? or any advice pls. Now my iPhone 3G 16G is having a problem of “no service” after upgrading from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and jailbreak. Pls help!

    you will have to download the terminal, from ceria… do a search and then you can follow the instructions … Mine just started to work

    hello i have downgrade from 2.30 to 2.28 and i had in begining network than it start saying no service no service..i had also 2.2.1 and change to 2.2 but i dont have no network…

    Hi Guys

    I have tried almost everything about downgrading my baseband to 5.8 and nothing seems to work.
    I also have a 3g 16mb with baseband 5.9 and software 2.2.1 my guess is we will have to wait untill QuickPWN come up with a package that will work.
